Effort vs. Endowment
This investigates how children evaluate informants with different resource acquisition backgrounds—one who worked hard to obtain resources and another who was endowed with them—and whether or not these differences influence children’s learning and social preferences. This study has important implications for understanding how children’s perceptions of effort and privilege shape their trust in others, their learning preferences, and their broader social judgments, shedding light on the development of merit-based and equity-based reasoning in early childhood.
